Charging System Troubleshooting
We currently sell charging system upgrades for the following engines:
- Predator 420 & GX390
- Predator 459
- Predator 670
While there are completely different physically, the functionality is fundamentally the same.
While the engine is running at 2000rpm, the charging system should be outputting 13.6 - 14.4volts DC. Do not test voltage under 2000rpm as its usually not making enough voltage to activate the Rectifier.
If you are not getting this voltage, the very first thing you need to do is check ALL connections. Its not unusual for connections to get tugged on and disconnect from the connector.
If you still aren't getting voltage from the rectifier, check the voltage directly from the coil coming out the back of the engine. This voltage will range dramatically based on engine speed but it is AC current so you will need to change your meter accordingly. This can range anywhere from 18v AC to 50v+. As long as its making power, you can assume the flywheel and coil are in good operating condition.
